Pachmarhi is a hill station of Madhya Pradesh situated on a large plateau Mahadeo hills of Satpura ranges. It is widely known as “Queen of Satpura”. Mostly it is visited by domestic tourists from all over the India especially from Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Bengal. A land with a long and deep historical past, India is a favorite choice of many Indian travelers.

Every part of this hill station is an attraction in itself and you need not go looking for places that are a treat to the eyes.

Travel Destinations in Pachmadi

Mahadeo

Situated just 10 km from the town, this is an important cave shrine for Hindus. This shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Reaching here is a bit strenuous as the only way is through deep Sal forests and sharp curves.

Priyadarshini Point

Priyadarshini point is definitely the best places that gives you the chance to get a clear view of the entire hill station and the nearby areas. This is the spot from where this magnificent hill station was discovered by Captain James Forsyth in the year 1857. The point was originally named after him as Forsyth Point but was later named as Priyadarshini Point. If possible, you should visit this point during the late evenings to witness the magnificent sunset from this point.

Satpura National Park

Satpura National Park adds an extras edge to the already picturesque locations in Pachmarhi. The park was established in the year 1981 and covers an area of 524 sq. km. The park is rich with a wide variety of flora and fauna. The forest area is full evergreen Sal trees, teak and bamboo trees. The wildlife of the park has animals like Tigers, Leopards, Bisons, blue bull and many more. Also find a large variety of birds, both migratory and resident, flocking in the park. Jeep safari is the best way to explore the many fascinations of the park. It will take around 3 days to complete the 200 km route. There are good staying options as well in and around Satpura National Park.

Chouragarh

Chouragarh – Chouragarh is 1316Mts.above mean sea level .It is nearly 3 Km from Bada Mahadeo.To reach the top of the hill one has to climb around 1,250 steps. As an offering to lord Shiva thousands of of Trishuls (Tridents_ are put by the devotees on the top, some of which weigh around 3 to 4 quintals.Chouragarh presents beautiful scenes of dense forest, valleys, hills & distant tribal villages in lap of Satpuras.

There are many hotels and resorts in Pachmadi to stay. One of the best resorts I've stayed in is Taj resort. Taj Resort is a budget hotel with all modern facilities. 4 Wheel drive vehicles are available to pick you up from your resort to the destination. They also have some packaged destinations on per day basis that needs to be negotiated with the driver. Mr. Khader, the driver of the 4 wheel drive I hired was hospitable and took us to all the spots that were visited by most of the visitors. He was friendly enough to take our snaps and also helpd us find a good restaurant to have food in between the sight seeing tour.

Jillelguda Venkateshvara Temple - Hyderabad, AP- India

This temple has the history of 500 years,having amazing statues, now this temple is maintaing by Arkala BhupalReddy as chairman.

When I visited this Jillelguda Venkateshvara Temple, I saw that there was a tele-serial's shooting going on and all the junior artists were getting ready for the shoot in this age old temple.

There is also a chariot (old enough) that is used for God's procession all over the locality to have his blessings to the people who live in the vicinity of this location (Jillalguda, Meerpet, Bandlaguda, Almasguda etc..)

The history of this temple is unknown to people living here. I'd request the readers to know more about this temple and post as a comment. I'll post your valuable comments as a blog post with your name against it.

Boating facilities are available in the reservoir. Mattupetty is also well known for its highly specialized dairy moonar hills, munnar farm - the Indo-Swisss Live Stock project. The Shola forests in and around Mattupetty are ideal for trekking and are habitat to a variety of birds. Rivulets and cascades crisscross the terrain here, which again adds more attraction to the place.

Rajamala

Rajamala is the natural habitat of Nilgiri Tahr. Half the world population of this rare mountain goat is found here, which is fast becoming extinct.

Nagaland – Cuisine

On the other hand, Tribal cuisine somehow vary from the common Naga cuisine. In truth, tribal cuisine is not always everyone’s cup of tea and it can be prepared only by tribes. Tribal eat steamed hornets, curried locusts and squirrel dish with sticky rice and washed down with rice beer. Take a drive from Dimapur to Kohima on National Highway 39 which is lined with Naga food stalls featuring local delicacies and mouth-watering pineapples.

Nagaland – Wildlife

Nagaland is home to only Itanki Wildlife Sanctuary but it is a wonderful treasure-trove of exotic wildlife. Itanki Wildlife Sanctuary is located 111 km away from Kohima and 37 km from Dimapur. In this sanctuary, you will see the Hoolock Baboon, the only gibbon found in India. Apart from gibbon, the sanctuary also has a sizeable population of elephant, tiger, mithun, sambhar, wild dog, sloth bear, barking deer, goral, flying squirrel, khaleej, hornbill, black stork etc. Sprawling over an area of 56 sq. kms, this wildlife sanctuary houses a forest resthouse and offers transport on hire.

The 'queen of beaches', Calangute one of the most visited travel destination Goa, nine miles from the Goan Capital Panaji, the beach is spread four miles along the Arabian sea. On the north is hamlet of Baga and to the south is Candolim village.The name Calangute according to locals is a distortion of the local vernacular word 'Koli-gutti', which means land of fishermen. Others say it has derived from Kalyangutti meaning the village of art, and still others say it came from the earlier name Konvallo -ghott because the village is full of coconut trees.

Tan yourself spreading on beach or go swimming. Calangute is a reasonably safe place to swim though one should keep at least three hundred meters away from the mouth of the river.

Take a fifteen minute walk from the main beach front area and you will come in a hawker free zone. Sights of rows of wooden boats and teams of village fishermen hauling nets in a high tide can be seen here. Together the sun, sand and sea set the mood for that perfect holiday. And while at beach you will not miss hundreds of stalls of sea food. Gorge on the prawns or the lobsters.

Calangute is one of the few beaches where water sports are available. There are more than a dozen of water sport operators along the beach. You can go for para sailing, water surfing, water skiing or banana and bump rides depending upon which you find more thrilling.

Industrialists Birlas have built a number of temples of architectural magnificence all over the country which, strangely, are referred to as Birla temples and not Lakshminarayan temple or Venkateswara temple. The palace is laid out in the shape of a scorpion with two stings spread out as wings on the north. The Falaknuma palace is a rare blend of Italian and Tudor architecture. Its glass stained windows throw a spectrum of colors into the rooms. The palace has a library with a walnut carved roof, a replica of the one at Windsor Castle. The library had one of the finest collections of the holy Quran in India.

The Falaknuma palace has other unique things to its credit. It includes the largest Venetian chandeliers. It is said that it took six months to clean a 138-arm Osler chandelier and the palace has 40 such chandeliers adorning the halls ! The famed dining hall of the palace could seat 100 guests on a single table. The furniture is also very aesthetic. The chairs are carved rosewood with green leather upholstery. The tableware was made of gold and crystal to which fluted music was added.

The telephone and electrical system was introduced in 1883 by Osler and the palace has one of the largest electrical switchboards in India.

The ground floor of the palace houses the living quarters. The marbled staircase leads to the upper floor. It has carved balustrades which supports marble figures with candelabra at intervals. The ceiling of the reception room in the upper floor is carved with frescoes bordered with gilded relief. This floor offers a panoramic view of the city.

The ballroom contains a two-ton manually operated organ said to be the only one of its kind in the world. This apart the palace has as many as 220 lavishly decorated rooms and 22 spacious halls. The palace has some of the finest treasures collected by the Nizam. However, the palace has proved to be fatal to those who have resided there for a long period. The scorpion-like structure is believed to be the cause of all deaths.

The Charminar is an imposing monument, which reflects the glory of the Qutub Shahi dynasty. It is a massive square structure, 56 m (183.72 ft) high and 30 m (98.42 ft) wide. This monument is built entirely of granite and lime mortar. It has 4 minarets one on each of its corners. These fluted minarets are attached to the main building and rise towards the sky to a height of 56 m (183.72 ft). Each minaret of the Charminar has a double balcony. A small bulbous cupola crowns each of these beautiful minarets, which is decorated with petal like formations. A short pointed spire crowns all the minarets.

The four grand arches of the Charminar face the four cardinal directions. Once upon a time each of these arches led to four royal roads. Each of the four arches is decorated on its sides with a row of small arched niches. The Charminar is a two-storied building with the first floor being covered. The elegant balconies on this floor provide excellent vantage point for viewing the surrounding areas. There is a small mosque on the top floor of the building, which can be reached by climbing a total of 149 steps. The mosque is situated on the western side facing the Muslim holy city of Mecca. There are as many as 45 prayer spaces on this floor, which does not have a roof on top of it. It is said that people thronged this mosque to offer Friday prayers, during the reign of the Qutub Shahi dynasty in Hyderabad. This mosque is the oldest surviving mosque in the city of Hyderabad. The panoramic view of the city from the top is simply breathtaking.

A Well Planned Architecture

The magnificent architecture of the Golconda fort is manifest in its acoustic system, the structural grandeur of the palaces and ingenious water supply system. The fort was famous for its diamond trade and the 'Kohinoor' diamond is said to have come from here. One is perplexed to see the meticulous details of the architecture and the fading gardens, which were once upon a time replete with sprawling lawns and playing fountains.

Golconda is built on a granite hill 120m high, and is surrounded by crenulated ramparts constructed of large masonry blocks weighing several tonnes. The design of the ventilation reveals the brilliant planning of the architects; they are designed to let in a flow of fresh cool breeze, which is a respite from the heat of summer.

The massive gates are studded with large pointed iron spikes to prevent elephants from battering them down. The outer wall surrounding the entire township of Golconda, is about 11-km long, and is strongly fortified. In its heyday, the 10-km long road from Golconda to outer Hyderabad was a fabulous market selling jewellery, diamonds, pearls and other gems, which were famous all over the world.

History Of Golconda

Before the city of Hyderabad was founded the Deccan was ruled from Golconda fort. Founded originally by the Kakatiya's in the 13th century the existing structure was expanded by the Qutub Shahi kings into a massive fort with granite walls and ramparts extending some 5-km in circumference. The first three Qutub Shahi kings rebuilt Golconda, over a span of 62 years.

Shepherd's Hill" or "Golla Konda", as it was popularly known in Telugu, has an interesting story behind it. One fine day, on the rocky hill called 'Mangalavaram', a shepherd boy came across an idol. This was conveyed to the Kakatiya king, who was ruling at that time. The king got a mud fort constructed around the holy spot. Over a period of time this lowly construction was expanded by the Qutub Shahi kings into a massive fort of granite, which has been a silent witness to many historic events.

Attractions Within The Fort

One of the most remarkable features of Golconda is its system of acoustics- a hand clap at a certain point below the dome at the entrance reverberates and can be heard clearly at the 'Bala Hissar', the highest point almost a kilometre away, palaces, factories, water supply system and the famous 'Rahban' cannon, that was used during the last seize of Golconda by Aurangazeb, to whom the fort ultimately fell.
There is also supposed to be secret underground tunnel leading from the 'Durbar Hall' to one of the palaces at the foot of the hill. The tombs of the Qutub Shahi kings, built with Islamic architecture lie about 1-km north of the outer wall of Golconda. These graceful structures are surrounded by landscaped gardens, and a number of them have beautifully carved stonework. Not be missed is the Sound and Light show conducted by Andhra Pradesh Tourism.

Outside the Golconda Fort are two separate pavilions built on a rocky eminence - the 'Taramathi Gana Mandir' and the 'Premathi Nritya Mandir' from where the legendary sisters 'Taramathi' and 'Premamathi' resided. They gave their performance on a circular dais atop a two-storied structure, the 'Kala Mandir', which was visible from the king's durbar (king's court) on top of the Golconda Fort.

The Taj Mahal is a wonderful piece of art. The beauty of the Taj Mahal is not limited to just the outside view but the art works and carvings inside the Taj Mahal are even more beautiful and fascinating. If one says that the works in Taj Mahal interiors are no less than jewellery, it is not exaggeration! The works and decorations inside the Taj Mahal are so exquisite that there is hardly any space for criticism. They epitomize perfection and beauty and an excellent travel destination India.

As soon as one enters the monument, one can see an elevated central chamber below which is the burial chamber. Four octagonal rooms in each corner surround the crypt. There are two levels in the Taj Mahal that consist of eight rooms each. These rooms were to be used to bury other members of the royal family. The crypts of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal lie side by side with the heads facing in the direction of the holy city of Mecca. They are decorated beautifully with inscriptions from the holy book of Muslims, The Quran and once were studded with semi-precious stones and gems.

The interior of the mausoleum comprises a lofty central chamber, a crypt immediately below this and four octagonal corner rooms originally intended to house the graves of other royal family members.

In the centre are the cenotaphs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan's cenotaph is to the left and is higher than that of his beloved which rests immediately below the dome.

The cenotaph of Mumtaz Mahal stands in the centre of the marble screen, it has inscribed on it in Persian with texts from the Koran. The cenotaph of Mumtaz has the single epitaph inscribed on it- "Marqad Munavvar Arjumand Bano Begum Mukhatib bah Mumtaz Mahal Tanifiyat fer sanh 1040 Hijri" (Here lies Arjumand Bano Begum called Mumtaz Mahal who died in 1040 A.H. or 1630 A.D.)

Inside View of Taj Mahal : The cenotaph of Shah Jahan is inscribed in Persian- .'Marqad Mutahar Aali Hazrat Firdaus Ashiyani Sahib-qiran Saani Shah Jahan Badshah taab surah sanh 1076 Hijri" (The sacred sepulchre of his most exalted Majesty, dweller of Paradise, the second lord of constellations, the king Shah Jahan, may his mausoleum ever flourish, 1076 A.H. (1666 A.D.).

A masterpiece inside the Taj Mahal is the marble screen or "Jali" that surrounds the graves. It has been intricately carved by artisans and is a delight to look at. It is carved so finely that it seems as though the screen is made up of fine cloth. The walls are intricately decorated with drawings like vines, creepers with flowers and other beautiful designs. At one point of time, these decorations had semi-precious stones and gems studded in them.

Above the tombs is a Cairene lamp, the flame of which is supposed to never burn out.

Marble screen of trelliswork surrounds the graves. Both tombs are exquisitely inlaid with semiprecious stones.

The acoustics of the building are superb with the domed ceiling being designed to echo chants from Koran and musician's melodies.

It is suggested that one walk around the outside of the tomb, before retrieving your shoes, to appreciate it from all sides.

This divides the garden into four equal squares(Islam considers four to be a holy number), evoking the image of Islamic paradise that has rivers of water, milk, wine and honey flow. The stone paved pathways further subdivides each flower bed into 4, making total of 16 flower beds.

The Persian Style Garden

The lush green garden expands from the main gateway to the plinth, over which stands the tomb. The garden in essense is based on symmetry and geometrical measurements. The Persian style garden has a close link with paradise, since Quran describes paradise as a beautiful garden.

Introduction to The Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is arguably one of the most incredible manmade constructions in the world. It’s located in Agra, which is in the north central part of Indian, on the right part of the Humana River. Known for its symmetry, the Taj Mahal sits on a raised platform surrounded by four minarets. Inside are delicate mosaic works and marble walls decorated with intricate patterns of inlaid precious stones. The Taj seems to glow in the light of the full moon. On a foggy morning, the visitors experience the Taj as if suspended when viewed from across the Jamuna river.

Taj Mahal Facts

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum (a large tomb). It was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his favourite wife Empress Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631. So great was the Shah Jahan’s love for his wife Mumtaz, that he ordered the building of the most beautiful mausoleum on Earth for her, The Taj Mahal.

* The construction documents show that its master architect was Ustad ‘Isa, the renowned Islamic architect of his time.

* The Taj stands on a raised, square platform (186 x 186 feet) with its four corners truncated, forming an unequal octagon. The architectural design uses the interlocking arabesque concept, in which each element stands on its own and perfectly integrates with the main structure.

* The tomb stands on its own marble base, which rests on a red sandstone platform. Four tall pillars, 138 ft each, rise up from the corners of the white marble base are topped with eight windowed cupolas. This has been made to replicate throne of God in paradise. Directly below the dome rests Mumtaz Mahal’s tomb, which is centrally lined with the main entrance. Besides Mumtaz Mahal’s tomb is the tomb of Shahjahan. The tomb of Shahjahan was not actually intended to be there but Aurangzeb placed it there, consequently breaking the symmetry.

The Taj Mahal is generally considered the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements of Persian, Turkish, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles.

Construction of the tomb started in 1632, and was completed in 1648. It took 22 years to complete the tomb, and an extra 5 years for the garden, with the help of 20,000 workers. Sculptors, masons, craftsmen, and calligraphers were called from Persia, Ottoman Empire and Europe to work on construction of the Taj.

The Taj Mahal is built from precious white marbel with dedlicate masiac, with inlaid precious stones. Almost every surface of the entire building has been decorated, and every detail is symmetrical. The mosaic designs are based on three decorative elements- calligrapyh, abtract geonetric and vegetative motifs. The exterior decorations of the Taj Mahal are among the finest to be found in Mughal architecture of any period.

The tomb initially calledÂ “Rauza”. Later, after Mumtaz Mahal passed away, the mausoleum would be called the Taj Mahal, a derivative of the name Mumtaz Mahal.

The architectural complex of the Taj Mahal comprises of five main elements: the Darwaza or main gateway, the Bageecha or garden, the Masjid or mosque, the Naqqar Khana or rest house, and the Rauza or the Taj Mahal mausoleum.

The name Taj Mahal when translated means “Crown Palace” or “Crown of the Palace.”

Taj Mahal Myths

The Taj Mahal comes attached with many myths and legends; whilst many are strongly believed, others are laughed at. There is evidence to suggest that these rumours are based on truth, but nothing is set in stone.

Many people believe, Shah Jehan had planned to build another Taj Mahal in black marble, which was to be his own tomb on the opposite bank of the River Yamuna and connect the two by a bridge.Â However, the construction never got started due to conflict with this son’s, which took up most of his time.

Shah Jehan deemed that no one else should ever copy the masterpice, so he had the master craftsmans hands cut off.

Some European scholars held the view that the Taj was designed by an Italian – Geronimo Veroneo. This was first suggested by Father Manrique, an Augustinian Friar, who came to Agra in 1640 A.D. to secure the release of Father Antony who had been imprisoned by the Mughals.

In the early years after the Taj Mahal was built, a long series of cracks in the underground vaults started to emerge. Those cracks were quickly seen to, and patched up. Cracking has been observed at different times since construction; testing in the early 19th Century showed the base of the mausoleum on the northern side of the structure is lower than on the south by 3.5 centimetres. There is some evidence the Taj Mahal is gradually sinking into the Yamuna River.

The construction of Taj Mahal is credited to the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan who erected this mausoleum in memory of his beloved wife, Arjumarid Bano Begum; popularly known as Mumtaz Mahal, who died in A.H. 1040 (A.D. 1630).

In 1983, The Taj Mahal was given recognition as a UNESCO World heritage site and hence was universally acknowledged as one of the best heritage sites throughout the world. Although there have been several listings for Seven Wonders of the World, or Recommended travel destinations.

Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India that was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, the grandson of Emperor Akbar, in the memory of his deceased queen Arjumand Bano Begum, who was more popularly known as Mumtaz Mahal who was also the niece of empress Nur Jahan.

Mumtaz Mahal last wish to her husband was "to build a tomb in her memory such as the world had never seen before". Thus emperor Shah Jahan set about building this fairy tale like marvel.

Taj Mahal was designed by Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. The material was brought in from allover India and central Asia and it took a fleet of 1000 elephants to transport it to the site. The central dome is 187 ft. high at the centre.

The white marble was brought from the quarries of Makrana, in distt. Nagaur, Rajasthan. Copies of orders (farmans) issued to Raja Jai Singh, for the purpose by Shah Jahan, can be seen in the Taj Museum.

If you want to visit the Taj Mahal with your loved one, I recommend you visit it on a full moon night when it is opened for night viewing. The beauty of the serene white structure bathed in the magical moon light, will be a memory that you will cherish forever, but don’t get me wrong, the Taj will sweep you off your feet any time you visit it. The Taj Mahal will entice you with its gold finials and intricate carvings on pristine marble, it will overwhelm you with the surrounding beauty of flowers and greenery but most of all it will take you into the depths of a historical journey, it will be an experience that you will carry in your heart, forever…

Ajanta and Ellora Caves:

The Ajanta caves depict the story of Buddhism, spanning a period from 200 BC to 650 AD. The Ellora caves, 34 in number, are carved into the sides of a basaltic hill, 30 kms from Aurangabad. The finest specimens of cave - temple architecture, they house elaborate facades and exquisitely adorned interiors. These structures representing the three faiths of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, were carved during the 350 AD to 700 AD period.

They are completely Buddhist, exceptional in that they mingle three forms of Art - architecture, sculpture and painting. You can consider it as a heritage tour India. The fabulous frescoes and paintings describe episodes from the Jataka stories and the life of Lord Buddha. Ajantha Caves

The 30 caves here have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set in a horseshoe formation the ancient caves are located on a high ridge above the gorge of the Waghora River. It was in 1819 that an officer of the Madras Cavalry John Smith, who was out hunting, saw the top of Cave 10 peeping over the thick undergrowth that had hidden them over time.

The caves were home to monks, craftsmen and artists over this period, and also served as shrines during the rainy season. They featured the prayer hall (chaitya) and monasteries (viharas) wherein are large-scale Buddhas and smaller Buddha images.

Cave 1 (one of the seven Hinayana caves dating from the 5th century) : The most well known for its evocative murals including that of Padamapani the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokilesvara, scenes from the Mahjanaka Jataka and the Miracle of Sravasti. The great mandala painted in the ceiling over the primary shrine.

Cave 2 is of particular interest. The vihar cave also features many Jataka tale panels linked to the birth of Lord Buddha.

In Cave 9, another Hinayana chaitya cave, the large Buddha images were added in the 5th century.
Cave 10 (whose chaitya griba dates to the 2nd century BC) is believed to be the oldest of Ajanta's caves.

In Cave 17, a vihar, is the largest number of paintings in a single cave at Ajanta. An bejewelled dark-skinned apsara is revealed in the midst of her make-up routine. Of particular interest is the minute detailing of the apsara standing in adoration of Buddha.
Cave 19, is a chaitya from where you can see the river might have been the original entrance to the cave complex.

In Cave 26 visitors encounter the most exuberant elements of the sculptural art of Ajanta. Of particular note here is the massive 23ft long reclining Parinirvana Buddha surrounded by mourning disciples.

After a look around at the caves, we headed for lunch at the MTDC Restaurant. It was time to get back to Aurangabad.

The guided tour to Ellora also included a visit to the Grishneshwar Temple, Daulatabad Fort, Bibi Ka Maqbara, and Panchaki. The first stop was the Grishneshwar Temple. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva in India.

The Daulatabad Fort is a majestic fortress built atop a rocky hillock. The fortress dates back to the 9th century when it was called Devgiri. It was Muhammad Bin Tughlaq who gave it the present name – Daulatabad, the “City of Wealth”. Tughlaq even shifted his capital from Delhi to Daulatabad for a short period of time.

Our next stop was the Ellora Caves, which are a group of 34 caves built in Buddhist, Hindu and Jain styles, demonstrating the religious harmony that existed in India even in those days.

Caves 1-12 are the Buddhist style caves and consist of Viharas and Chaitya Gruhas.

The most popular Buddhist cave is Cave 10, also known as the “Vishwakarma Cave”. It has a multi-storeyed entry and a central stupa. A huge statue of Buddha in the teaching pose is seated below the stupa. The roof of the cave is carved in such a way that it looks like it’s made of wooden beams.
Caves 13-29 are the Hindu Caves and the most popular of these is Cave 16, also known as the “Kailashnath Temple”. This temple is the masterpiece at Ellora. It is a huge structure, consisting of a multi storeyed temple with a huge courtyard, which houses 2 gigantic “Dhwajastambhas”. There is also a massive Nandi in the courtyard. There are numerous other pillars, prayer halls and images of deities all around the complex. And all this has been carved out of a single rock. It took around a century to complete this temple complex.

Caves 30-34 are the Jain Caves and depict the Jain philosophy and tradition. These caves have exceptionally detailed carvings. The carvings of Mahavira are very aesthetic. The Jain Caves were the last ones that we visited and here ended our Ellora tour.

The next stop on the way back was Bibi-Ka-Maqbara or the 'Mini Taj'. It is a miniature version of the Taj Mahal, but isn’t built entirely of marble. Only the first couple of layers are marble while the rest is white plaster. But nonetheless, it is impressive. This wound up our visit to Aurangabad and we made arrangements to board the evening train to Hyderabad.

Hinglaj is one of the Hindu Temple and an important Hindu pilgrimage place in Balochistan, Pakistan and Kuldevi of Kshatriya Bhavsar Community.

This sacred place of pilgrimage for Hindus specially the devotees of Aadh Shakti Devi Maata is situated in the mountain cave "HINGLAJ" on the river bank of "HINGHOL" at the tail of Kheerthar mountains called Kanraj in tehsil Lyari of Balochistan province of Pakistan. It is considered one of the famous and largest TEERATHS Pilgramage of Subcontinent

Hinglaj is situated in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. It is near the peak of one of the mountains of the Makran range. It is approximately 120 km from the Indus River Delta and 20 km from the Arabian Sea. The area is extremely arid and the pilgrimage also called 'Nani ki Haj' by local Muslims takes place before summer. The pilgrimage starts at a place near the Hao river which is 10 km from Karachi.

Hinglaj has survived and is in fact revered by local Muslims who call it 'Nani ki Mandir'. Muslims offer red or saffron clothes, incense, candles and a sweet preparation called 'Sirini' to the deity[citation needed]. The Muslims protected sites like Hinglaj which are the last vestiges of the Hindu society which once straddled the area.

An important Shakti Peeth of Goddess Sati, Hinglaj Mandir or Nani Mandir is situated in Hingol National Park in Baluchistan province of Pakistan.

It came into existence when Lord Vishnu cut up Sati's dead body into 52 pieces so that Lord Shiva would calm down and stop his Tandava. These pieces got scattered all over the Indian subcontinent whilst Sati's head fell at Hingula or Hinglaj.

According to ancient scriptures, Lord Rama had also meditated at Hinglaj to atone for his sin of 'Brahmhatya' - killing of Ravana who was a Brahmin and a great devotee of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga.

In my last posts you have got to know about travel destinations of Maharashtra, now just have a look at the holy place "Pandharpur" (Temple Of Lord Vithoba & Rukumai).

Pandharpur is a small town in the district of Sholapur. It is situated on the banks of the Bhima River, which is also known as Chandrabhaga. Pandharpur, also called as the spiritual capital of the state of Maharashtra and is the site of the sacred shrine of Vithoba, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple was built in 13th century and is a main pilgrimage centre for the Varakaris (members of one of the state’s most popular religious sects).

This quaint little habitat is all set to allure the devotees with the legendary story of Lord Vitthal and his beloved devotee Pundalik. The popular belief is that the God had visited this place to see Pundalik and he had to wait outside Pundalik’s residence for quiet sometime since the latter was busy serving his aged parents. Later Pundalik came before the lord and seek his pardon. Pleased by his devotion towards his parents the lord decided to stay with Pundalik forever and ever since the lord stays there in the village.

Every year Goan Hindus go on a pilgrimage to Shri Vithal temple at Pandharpur on Ashadi Ekadashi. This tradition is deeply rooted in history for more than 600 years. It is believed that Vataba Dulba Rane Morlekar from Morle-Sattari and other devotees used to visit Shri Vithal temple of Pandharpur on the occasion of Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi.

Pandharpur hosts four annual pilgrimages of Hindu devotees. Among them, the pilgrimage in the month of Āshādh in the Hindu Shāliwāhan Shak calendar attracts the large number of pilgrims. The pilgrimage in the month of Kārtik attracts the next largest number of pilgrims.

There are some other important holy places around Pandharpur as Goddess TuljaBhavani (Goddess of family - KulDevata of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj)at TuljaPur, Saint Shri Swami Samarth (God Form of Dattatraya) at ShriKshetra Akkalkot, Lord Dattatraya at Ganagapur etc. All are located in / near to Solapur District.
